When first spotted, Lewis and Clark thought they were looking at "Mount St. Helens".  Mt. Adams is hard to see from the Columbia River's edge.

(although rarely reported) This is a picture of Lewis & Clark's gaint butterfies on the Columbia River near what is now the city of Hood River.
